We are proud to highlight, Amelia Houghton, for her meaningful contribution to the community health fair held on November 22, 2025 at France’s Barbershop in Worcester. Amelia participated as part of the Barbershop Health Network, a grassroots effort dedicated to improving health outcomes by bringing essential services directly into trusted community spaces.
The Barbershop Health Network is a grassroots effort committed to improving health outcomes across Worcester by meeting residents where they feel comfortable. By offering free blood pressure and glucose screenings, hosting conversations about wellness, and sharing up to date vaccine information, the Network builds trust and strengthens the connection between community members and health professionals.
During the event, our member helped deliver a range of services that made a meaningful impact. Three influenza vaccines and one COVID vaccine were administered, all provided to uninsured clients. Under the supervision of licensed physicians, medical students offered screenings and consultations in collaboration with the Worcester District Medical Society, UMASS Chan Medical School and the Worcester Division of Public Health.
Representing the Division of Public Health, our member focused on vaccination services for uninsured residents and also brought A1C testing kits. One participant expressed interest in being screened and received a normal result. The barbershop environment proved to be a welcoming and familiar setting that encouraged community participation and reduced barriers to care.
This event highlighted the power of community based health outreach. By partnering across organizations and meeting people in the places they trust most, our member helped create an accessible and positive health experience for Worcester residents.
Thank you for all that you do!
