JOB DESCRIPTION
The mission of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is to protect, preserve, and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, particularly the most vulnerable. DUTIES
· Participate in the development of nursing protocols and standards for the CDC Division,
TB Clinic and other settings as requested.
· Collaborate with other Infectious Disease Bureau (IDB) staff to provide clinical and public
health nursing services.
· Participate in CDC Division, TB Clinic, and other meetings as requested.
· Supervise all public health nursing staff in the IDB. Develop staffing plans to ensure that
there is adequate nursing staff in the TB Clinic, at the CDC Division, and at community
sites as needed.
· Collaborate with others throughout the IDB to ensure public health preparedness.
· May be required to perform duties of other IDB nurses including direct nursing care and
supervision (at the TB Clinic, CDC Division offices, and in the community).
· Participate in IDB quality improvement initiatives. Ensure that nursing services in the IDB
are delivered in accordance with appropriate standards of care for nursing. Ensure that
all data are accurate and of high quality.
· Provide technical assistance to other health care providers, community agencies, and
the public as requested.
· Participate in education and outreach activities and trainings.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· License to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
· BSN required; Masters Degree in Public Health, Nursing, or related area preferred.
· Minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience (preferably some Infectious Disease
experience) preferred.
· Minimum of three years of supervisory/management experience.
· Demonstrated skill in evaluating the health needs of population groups and identifying
individuals at high risk.
· Ability to teach, counsel and collaborate with others to provide services for diverse high
risk individuals and families.
· Demonstrated skill in recording and interpreting complex health data and making
informed judgments related to client care and population health problems. Experience
recording and compiling data, and supervising others with regard to data.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret public health
measures and regulations to lay members of the community.
· Demonstrated strong organizational, planning, and management skills.
· Bilingual preferred.
· Massachusetts driver's license and access to a vehicle required.

Union Status Union, Job Grade 12, Pay Range $1,428.11 to $2,372.72 per week; depending on experience Standard Hours Shift 40 hours per week. 9AM to 5:30PM; Monday to Friday. Position may require occasional weekend, holiday, or evening hours.
